Rotary Switch

A Rotary Switch is a switch that operates by rotation. These are often chosen when more than 2 locations are required, such as a three-speed fan or a CB radio with multiple receiving frequencies or "channels".

The rotary switch consists of a spindle or "rotor" with a contact arm or "spoke" that protrudes from its surface like a CAM. It has a set of terminals arranged in a circle around the rotor, and each terminal serves as a contact for the "spoke" through which any one of many different circuits can be connected to the rotor. Switch layer, allowing the use of multiple poles; Each layer corresponds to a pole. Alternatively, rotation can be limited to a small part of the circle (half; First third), then each layer can have more than one (two; Three equal poles. Typically, this switch has a pawl mechanism, so it "clicks" from one active position to another, rather than stopping in the middle.
