Test methods for stability and life of metal switches

2023-03-06

I. Introduction
Metal switch in electronic switch is a common type of switch, it has the advantages of high reliability and long life, so it is widely used in many fields, such as automotive electronics, home appliances and so on. However, due to the use of metal switch environment and frequency, so its stability and life will be affected. In order to guarantee the quality and performance of metal switch, it is necessary to carry out stability and life test. This paper describes the stability and life test methods of Metal Switches, as well as the related performance parameters and standardization requirements.
Ii. Stability test method

The stability test of metal switches is usually divided into two methods: electrical test and mechanical test. Among them, electrical testing is mainly aimed at the electrical characteristics of the switch, such as switching resistance, contact resistance, turn-on time, etc. And mechanical test is mainly aimed at the switch of mechanical properties test, such as switch power, stroke, elasticity, etc. The following are several commonly used stability testing methods:

Electrical test

(1) Resistance test: resistance test is a method to detect the on-state of the switch, which can be measured by multimeter and other test equipment.
(2) On-off time test: on-off time refers to the time from pressing the button to on-off, which can be measured by oscilloscope and other test equipment.
(3) Contact resistance test: contact resistance refers to the resistance of the switch contact, which can be measured by multimeter and other test equipment.

Mechanical test

(1) Travel test: travel test refers to the length of travel after the switch button is pressed, which can be measured by calipers and other test equipment.
(2) Elasticity test: elasticity test refers to the elastic state of the switch button after release, which can be measured by testing equipment such as testing machine.
(3) Wear resistance test: wear resistance test refers to the wear resistance of switch keys in long-term use, which can be measured by testing equipment such as wear testing machine.

Mechanical life test

Mechanical life testing refers to the evaluation of the durability and reliability of a switch by simulating the long-term use of a switch key. Generally, testing machines and other equipment are used for testing, which commonly used test parameters include key force, travel length, elastic recovery and so on.

Electrical life test
Electrical life testing refers to the long-term testing of the electrical characteristics of a switch to assess its durability and reliability. Generally, switching life tester and other equipment are used for testing, among which the commonly used test parameters include switching resistance, contact resistance, on-off time, etc. The testing time is generally between 100,000 and 10 million times, depending on the requirements of the product and the use environment.
